Run For Color!
A few weeks ago I received a request to shoot the Color Me Rad 5K at the Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. I had seen ads for this event on the trains in NYC and some other images and video clips online and I thought it looked like a lot of fun to participate in, but especially to shoot.
The purpose of the 5k run is to brighten up spirits by running a course with color bombs of water and dyed cornstarch being tossed around at various locations throughout the course.
I was charged with trying to capture as many of the 14,000+ runners as possible. For about three hours, I composed and shot, composed and shot as I tried my best to capture every runner who ran by my station. I wanted to create nice, clean solo shots, but that was a big challenge as people generally like to run in groups.
I was paired with two terrific photographers from New Jersey in our station. Shooting with them really helped me as a photographer to pick up tips from pros who shoot events like this regularly. It also helped to have some people to talk to while we shot. They were a big part of why I had such a great experience there and helped me to take away a lot of great information from the shoot.
Participants were all smiles as they walked, ran, skipped, and jumped through the color stations. Some participants even took the opportunity to form color angels on the ground.
I had a blast shooting this event. Here is a gallery of some of my images from that day. Feel free to check out the Color Me Rad website if you're interested in more information.
